Climate Change and the increasing threat to Southern Haiti

Your Support is Needed

As we watch the devastation of the recent earthquake in our beloved home of Cavaillon in the South of Haiti, we are supporting our members on the ground to address the increasing climate change threat through our initiatives to combat food insecurity, population displacement, and poor infrastructure. Our current focus is to provide an all-hands-on-deck strategy to help those most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, and with your help we look forward to providing Southern Haiti a developmental approach that is sustainable and climate resilient. Southern Haiti

As evident in the picture on this page, the southern region of Haiti boasts beautiful beaches, rivers. water caves, and waterfalls, which are both a strength and a threat for residents. These bodies of water can lead to massive flooding, especially during the rainy season (May-October). Year after year, schools are forced to close for days and even weeks because floods cut off the roads to schools and bring waterborne diseases like malaria and diarrhea. In Cavaillon, where FHS began, many homes and lives are lost to severe weather conditions every year and residents become further impoverished. Our work at FSH is dedicated to changing these conditions in Southern Haiti.

Help Our Cause - Support Our December Service Trip

Each December, Friends of Southern Haiti, Inc. (FSH) volunteers travel to a rural community below these mountains to engage in service trips designed to provide relief to the poor, the distressed and the underprivileged of southern Haiti.

This holiday season, U.S. based volunteers will travel to Haiti again. All volunteers are responsible for their costs of travel and living expenses in Haiti.

The funds raised by FSH are spent directly on the December project selected by the residents of the village, the community dinner that takes place in the village of Cavaillon, Haiti, on December 24, and gifts of basic necessities for the children of Cavaillon.
